Mefford's Jewelers of Alabama, Inc. was started in 1945 by O.T. "Pete" Mefford, Sr. and his wife, Julia on Seminary Street in downtown Florence. They were soon joined by their son, O.T. Mefford, Jr. Mefford's originally started as a watch and jewelry repair shop, but gradually added other lines of watches, jewelry, and giftware. Today, Mefford's is still located in the heart of downtown Florence; now at the corner of Court and Tennessee Street. Olin Mefford, III joined the store in 1975 and Russell Mefford in 1996.Mefford's has a gem laboratory and two gemologists on staff along with a jewelry repairman. We pride ourselves on our fine merchandise, quality service, honesty and integrity. Mefford's makes yearly trips to Antwerp Belgium, the diamond capitol of the world, buying directly from diamond cutters for the best possible prices in loose diamonds. We also carry fine quality colored gemstones, cultured pearls, freshwater pearls, fine gold, and silver. We carry Seiko watches, Skagen watches from Denmark, and our name brand of Swiss timepieces, the Mefford's watch. Mefford's is the exclusive dealer for the bridal designer line Kirk Kara, the Chamilia bead line, Lorenzo sterling silver and 18kt. gold jewelry, and the Hidalgo enamel jewelry line in the Shoals area.
Mefford's carries a complete line of bridal gifts, fine china, silver, and crystal. Among the lines we carry are Waterford, Wedgwood, Lenox, Pickard, Reed & Barton, Lunt, and Towle.
